Doppler Venous insufficiency of the lower limbs 13.01.2025 4 min At the Phlebology Clinic, we carry out various types of specialist consultations, including radiological, surgical, vascular or proctological. The leading type of specialist consultation, however, is PHLEBOLOGICAL CONSULTATION. Each phlebology consultation in our Clinic is carried out by doctor of phlebology - dealing on a daily basis with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of venous diseases. The spectrum of diseases diagnosed and treated by us diseases of the venous system is very broad. On a day-to-day basis, we deal with vascular spider veins (telangiectasias), or small green venous dilatations visible under the skin, i.e. venlectasias. This is usually the first (visually symptomatic) stage of the venous insufficiency of the lower limbs. The treatment of lower limb varicose veins (the most commonly reported problem by our patients) is always causal. It is important to remember that 'varicose vein is not a disease', it is merely a symptom of venous insufficiency as a whole. Therefore, the treatment of venous insufficiency must always be causal. Other diseases we treat include pelvic venous insufficiency and arising in its course varicose veins of the lower pelvis in ladies or varicose veins of the genital tract at Gentlemen. For more on this topic, see: WOMEN'S ZONE and THE MAN'S ZONE. The most serious and quite frequent pathology of the venous system diagnosed during phlebology consultation is deep venous thrombosis or less dangerous thrombophlebitis of the superficial system. This first phenomenon, which involves the occlusion of venous blood outflow from the deep veins of the lower leg, thigh or femoro-iliac segment, always requires a good diagnosis, urgent pharmacological treatment, compression therapy and often even intravenous intervention, e.g. involving vessel patency and the administration of drugs to dissolve the thrombus locally. Poorly or late treated deep vein thrombosis often leads to the occurrence of venous post-thrombotic syndromeand, as a consequence, very often to the so-called venous leg ulcers. What else distinguishes the PHLEBOLOGY CONSULTATIONS carried out at the Phlebology Clinic? Every phlebology consultation is performed with a Doppler ultrasound evaluation of the venous system. At the Phlebology Clinic we use a holistic assessment, i.e. we do not focus on assessing only the veins of the lower limbs. As our many years of practice have shown, such an approach is incorrect and leads to many misdiagnoses. In situations that require it, the entire venous system is assessed, including ultrasound evaluation of the abdominal and pelvic veins. There is also an ultrasound verification of the arterial system during the consultation. This is particularly important in elderly patients or those suffering from diabetes for many years, who develop atherosclerotic plaques in the arterial walls and impaired oxygenated blood flow to the legs. We also diagnose the venous system comprehensively in pregnant women Those suffering from varicose veins of the intimate area, severe venous insufficiency of the lower limbs or women at risk of thrombophilia, or venous compression syndrome. Remember that during pregnancy, the real risk of deep vein thrombosis is always several times higher than in the general population! After each phlebology consultation, the patient is informed whether a so-called extended venous system assessment is required. On site in Vascular Laboratory of the Department of Phlebology and in cooperation with Centre for Imaging Diagnostics Centre for Sports Medicine we perform a full panel of diagnostic tests of the venous system, i.e. - Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS);- magnetic resonance venography;- venography in computed tomography;- digital phlebography. Patients referred for an extended diagnosis have an individualised treatment plan for their disease established. The diagnosis and the therapies used are always aimed at maximum causal treatment.
