Phlebology is one of the field of medicine which has developed dynamically in recent several years. ‘Phlebology’ comes from Greek word (φλεβός). The notion ‘phlebos’ denotes ‘vein’. Venous system diseases belong to the conditions which are of the highest prevalence in the population. Spider veins, varicose veins or venous thrombosis are those mostly recognized, also in media. A range of venous diseases, however, is much wider.

Phlebology is one of the most interdisciplinary specialization. High-class phlebologist uses different methods of imaging diagnostics of venous diseases. Combination of holistic approach to the patient and therapeutic methods allows for alleviating the symptoms and treating the cause of ailments at a minimally discomfort for the patient. Phlebology deals with the treatment of acute (e.g. phlebitis) and chronic conditions, i.e. chronic venous disease or postthrombotic syndromes. Thus, phlebologist is a physician specializing in the diagnostics and treatment of venous system diseases.
